Ban Na Ta PoBan Na Ta Po is located in Tambon Ban Beung, Amphoe Ban Rai. It is 1.5 kilometers away from the east of Amphoe Ban Rai, and 300 kilometers away from Bangkok. Local people here are Laotians who evacuated from Lao 300 years ago since Thonburi period during late times in the reign of King Taksin Maharat.Lao Khrang people usually dressed up themselves in garments dyed with Khrang or red sealing wax to many special occasions. People here have talent in weaving intricate naturally-dyed textile work. On April 17th of every year, there will be a festival displaying weaving techniques of wild fabric, floral processions, and Tung (northern long-tailed flag) binding culture. The event presents Thai traditional dance called Nang Dong Nang Khaen”, and old-fashioned boxing show belonged to the ancient Lao people as well.A rule for the local village entrance is that whenever any visitors stay at Lao Khrang’s house for a night, the house’s owner will inform the house spirit. If the visitors are husbands and wives, they cannot sleep together in the house. According to their belief, it is considered Pid-Peeor breaking the local tradition. That can offend the house spirit who can possibly punish the house’s owner by cursing them to illness. (This belief is similar to belief of Lee Sor tribe.)Lao Khrang people has a variety of weaving styles, both in patterns and weaving techniques, since they work on 2 kinds of textile; cotton, and silk. The techniques they use are Jok and Mudmee techniques. The outstandingly unique textile of Lao Khrang people is Pha Zin (a sarong) which employed both Mudmee and Jok methods. After being tie-dyed, Tin Jok on the sarong was woven with silk. The jok process runs alternately with Khid technique which is in vertical patterns. Apart from silk, cotton is subsequently brought to Jok process, red is mostly its background color with geometric patterns. There is no any fixed styles, sometimes the silk sarong is woven with only Mudmee technique, not alternating with Khid technique. Remarkably, the art of traditional weaving greatly presents the charming uniqueness of this local village.
