Talad Nam Pu: Chanthaburi’s mecca of Local specialties
A major attraction of Chanthaburi is the fresh market in the downtown area. Named after a fountain roundabout at its entrance, “Talad Nam Pu” is vibrant with fresh and dried merchandises ranging from catches of the day, sun dried seaFood, vegetables and groceries. In the late afternoon until evening, the market is revived with Local ready meals.
There are a number of Food stalls here. Some of them show Chanthaburi’s delicacies.
“Thong Chai Pla Muk Yang” or grilled squid by Thong Chai impresses with fresh squid, which is grilled and dipped in sweet and spicy sauce. After dipping the sauce, the squids are grilled again to preserve the spicy flavor.
Steamed rice, mixed with chili and salt, is a Local delicacy of Chanthaburi. The dish is available on the market in the "Kluk Klik Noodle Shop". It is steam rice mixed with spices, namely coriander roots, garlic, chili and salt. The ingredients are grounded in a mortar and seasoned with lime juice, sugar, and fish sauce. The dish is served with half boiled egg, pork, squid and vegetable.
The Food stall “12 Baht Juice Flappe” refreshes you with unique blended juices in different recipes such as coconut juice with black jelly or coconut juice with Ovaltine.
“Sen Chan” or Chanthaburi Noodle is a Local dish you cannot miss. The chewy noodles are stir-fried with red, spicy sauce. “Sen Chan Pad Poo Bang Kaja”, a Food stall located next to the police box on the market, serve delicious Sen Chan with crispy deep fried crabs.
