Thong Pha Phum National Park: the vibrant wilderness at the border

Because of its remote location, Thong Pha Phum National Park in Kanchanaburi province is often overlooked. But the peaceful atmosphere keeps it charming in the meantime. The national park’s fertile forest is linked to Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife, Hua Kha Kaeng, Mae Wong, and Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary. These forests form one of the largest protected areas in Southeast Asia.

The extensive green area serves as a large safe sanctuary for wildlife and as a haven for nature lovers. Spend a few days here and you will definitely love its peaceful nature.

With a huge area, Thong Pha Phum houses attractions which are well worth to explore. Start your first day in at Khao Chang Phuak which is a great challenging place for adventurers. On the way to the mountain top, visitors have to hike through a very narrow and steep path. It is a thrilling walk but rewarded with the great scenery of the mountain.

Spend cozy nights in the park’s Tarzan huts, or pitch your tents on the scenic camping ground beneath the starry sky of Kanchanaburi.

Next morning, stroll around the tiny village of Ban E-Tong and be amazed by the utmost tranquility and peace of the border villagers. Visit the Somsak Mining Homestay in the middle of the lush jungle. Very delicious cakes made by Auntie Glennis are an excellent reward for those who make an effort to get there.

To beat the afternoon’s heat, dive into the Jok Ka Din Falls, which plunge hundred feet off the cliff. There are other waterfalls in the park which can be explored.

After spending the night amidst the virgin forest of Thong Pha Phum, start the morning among a magnificent view of the fog at Chang Phuak Hill. It will be a fabulous trip which will be in your memory.

How to get there: Thong Pha Phum National Park is located around 124 miles northwest of Kanchanaburi town and about 43 miles from the district center of Thong Pha Phum.
