Bangkok’s Samyan district is always vibrant with businesses. There are hundreds of delicacies around the corners of this old quarter. Explore Samyan and you will be amazed how colorful it is. Listed below are five famous places to dine, lively and light on pocket.


Joke Samyan, Chulalongkorn Soi 11

The shop specializes exclusively in congee and it serves fragrant Chinese rice soup. The standard congee costs 40 baht, 45 baht with an egg and 50 baht with a century egg. It is topped with big pieces of chewy pork. The shop opens twice from 5am to 9am and 3.30pm-8pm. And it is always packed, though a delivery service is available.


Uan-Phom Steak, Samyan Market

Huge portions of steak, served with salad, deep fried chicken and fresh vegetables as side dish, have made this shop in Samyan famous for decades. Diners love to call this huge dish, “Satellite Dish Steak”. Pasta and other western dishes are available as well.


Forget Me Not, Chulalongkorn Soi 50

The cozy restaurant is ideal for gathering and dining. It serves fresh seafood of high quality, ranging from stir-fried bitter bean with shrimps, deep fried rock lobsters, and garlic rice topped with deep fried barramundi. Instant noodles with seafood is also a famous dish here.


J-aow Khao Tom Ped, Charat Muang Road

The restaurant serves Thai dishes a la carte, but there is a debut of gigantic instant noodle dish topped with pork, eggs, and seafood. The instant noodles are called “Mama” in Thailand because that’s the most known brand of instant noodles. The menu is served after 11pm and lasts until 1am only. Two packs of Mama with crispy pork and two eggs are actually served in a hot pot and cost 120 baht. The most expensive at 800 baht called Mama with Crab Meat, including 4 packs of instant noodles and plenty of seafood.


Suki Samyan, Chulalongkorn Soi 50

The old restaurant serves simple but very delicious Thai-style Sukiyaki dishes with a selection of toppings like pork, chicken and seafood. Moreover, the restaurant includes menus such as chicken rice, pork leg with rice, and many more. You may find a long queue, but it is worthwhile waiting for.


How to get there: Sam Yan is located close to Rama IV Road. Just use Bangkok’s subway (MRT) and get off at MRT Sam Yan Station.
