Low-key, charming beach of Ban Krut

South of Prachuap Khiri Khan’s coast, a long sandy beach stretches far with emptiness, save for some coconut palms and dense rows of casuarina trees.

If you are looking for a tranquil beach to be all alone, Ban Krut Beach is the place to be.  The little town of Ban Krut is probably your preferred choice to hide out from busy destinations. No matter during any long-holiday period or the high season like Songkran Festival, this sandy beach is not overrun by locals.

Swimming and eating are probably two main activities to do here. Strolling the vast beach, playing with endless waves without the crowd, and roaming the quiet roads for tasty delicacies, these could make you miss Cha-Am beach before its boom.

Your escape to Ban Krut can get a bit livelier when you get to the northern end of the bay. An elegant Wat Thang Sai and Phra Maha That Chedi Phakdi Prakat sit elegantly atop Thong Chai Mountain. Built for the late King Rama IX in celebration of his golden jubilee, the nine-peak pagoda and its stained-glass windows vividly glow under the blue sky. Stunning view from the mountain tops is definitely rewarding.

After the mountain climbing, a handful of restaurants by the beach can pick you up with excellent and reasonable seafood. Who knows, you may love this low-key tranquil beach.

How to get there: Ban Krut is 220 miles south of Bangkok via highway 4. From Bangkok Station, trains heading to the south pass Ban Krut daily. For more information call 032-513-885.
