Koh Ran Ped and Koh Ran Kai : Underwater Paradise in the Gulf of Thailand

 

Far away off Chumphon’s coast are excellent dive sites which offer spectacular underwater sceneries and abundant marine life. Among them is a Koh Rad Ped and Koh Ran Kai.

The uninhabited islet of comprise limestone pinnacles which drop to sea floor. Dive site around Koh Ran Ped is 20 meters deep while Koh Ran Kai is 5-15 meters deep. They also have a beautiful underwater cave, wall and a large rock bed blanketed with sea fans, sea whips, sponges as well as black corals. Crystal clear and shallow water allow sun light to penetrate and illuminate sea bed where large colony of purple-colour sea anemones occupy the whole area.

 

Koh Ran Ped and Koh Ran Kai are homes to abundant fishes namely butterfly fish, damsel fish, turtles, and yellow tailed barracuda. Occasionally, the harmless whale sharks show up to excite divers.

 

The islets are part of Mu Ko Chumphon National Park, which encompasses over 40 islands. Many of them provides excellent diving and snorkeling opportunity. One of the best dive sites is at Koh Ngam Yai and Koh Ngam Noi which have amazing fish variety and coral reef. Koh Ngam Yai is even more remarkable with a hundred metres high rock cliff resembling the shape of a hand.

 

The quiet province of Chumphon has abundance seafood. One of the nice place to enjoy seafood is Koh Tieb. With a project to conserve local crabs, the island is rich with crabs, as well as other seafood. Explore hidden beaches and islands, swim and snorkel, then complete your journey with seafood lunch on the turquoise color sea of Chumphon, you will love this quiet province.

 

How to get there: Chumphon is 290 miles south of Bangkok via highway 4. Night trains leave Bangkok Station daily for Chumphon.
