Khao Kai Nui: A small hill with great viewpoint

Khao Kai Nui: A small hill with a great viewpoint

When the sun is about to rise, the dark sky slowly glows and is bathed in different shades of orange colors. Morning mist lingers in the valley, blanketing the jungle down below and creating a dreamlike scenery at dawn. When the sun rises, the back-lid mist glows in the golden ray and reveals the mystics of the nature. This beautiful scenery is located close to Andaman Sea.

Khao Khai Nui is only 200 meters high, but the small hill still offers a great viewpoint to witness the misty valley of Phang-nga and sheet of fog that blankets the green valley every morning. On the top of the hill, you can see surrounding hills and mountains such as Lam Kaen Hill, Kapong Hill, Phang-nga hill and Phutajo Range. The beautiful sunset view is also a main magnet that attracts visitors who enjoy camping on top.  When darkness falls, the starry sky shows up and reveal a different face of Phang-Nga.

From Khao Kai Nui it’s a short drive to Samed Nang She, another great view point of the spectacular scenery of Phang-nga Bay and its dramatic limestone islets stretching out of sight above the vast river basin and mangrove forest. The bay of Phangnga consists of limestone karsts, which protrude vertically out of the water, and is thus a natural labyrinth surrounded by small islands. Here, you can make leisurely day trips cruising around the islands and occasionally stop on quiet beaches.

How to get there: Khao Kai Nui is located in Ban Fai Tha, Tambon Thung Maprao, Tai Muang, Phangnga province. The hill is accessible via the rural road number 1050.
