Kaohong: The market of yesteryears

If the bustling Samchuk market is too crowded for you, Kaohong market is one of the more peaceful markets of Suphanburi and therefore worthwhile a visit.

Located close to the Tha Chin River, Kaohong Market is a wooden arcade of the old days. Many years ago, it started with nine shophouses built by a Thai-Chinese rice tycoon. Its founder Hong, or Boonrod Liangwanich survived the robbery at his raft house, but his wife died. After the tragic, Hong moved to the riverside land and built shophouses here, with watchtower built particularly be prepared for robberies. The market was growing and many more shops opened.  Now, it is three times the size of before and roughly divided into three zones: the central, the lower and the upper markets where you can walk through rows of wooden shophouses.

Walking through the market and you will feel like being drifted through the history pages among the old wooden architecture. This place offers a lot of photo opportunities as well as a variety of delicious foods such as curry puffs, Kao Kriab Pak Mor, Thai traditional noodles and other Thai desserts. The great variety of local sweets makes it the center of traditional desserts of Suphanburi. Do not miss to try freshly made Bakpia, which is the bean-filled mooncake-like pastry.

How to get there: The Kaohong Market is located in Bang Pla Ma District of Suphanburi, some 100 kilometers from Bangkok, accessible via highway 240.
