Chill out in easy Prasae

Located in Klaeng district of Rayong, Pak Nam Prasae or the mouth of Prasae River is a hidden gem of the eastern coast. It is the place where you can be relaxed, stay close to the nature and enjoy fresh seafood.

Paknam Prasae houses the largest mangrove forest in Rayong. Covering nearly 2,400 acres of wetland, the area has been preserved by locals to be natural fence along the coastline. The highlight is a milelong board path in the dense area of Thung Prong Thong (Ceriops decandra trees). Along the way, you will see wildlife in the wetland area such as crabs, mudskippers and migrant birds.

Another highlight is the HTMS Prasae Memorial. Stands at the mouth of Prasae River, Prasae Frigate (92.8m long and 11.5m wide) once ran to South Korea along with another warship, HTMS Tha Chin during the Korean War (1950-1953). HTMS Prasae is now located in a public park not far from Prasae Beach and served as an open museum.

Pak Nam Prasae also has an old community dating back to the Ayutthaya period. Some wooden shophouses have been well preserved and converted as tourist attractions like Pak Maenam Prasae Museum, restaurants and homestays. You can try local dishes like Chaenglon (grilled fish cake) and stir-fried noodle with crab meat and Cha Khlu or Indian Marsh Fleabane tea while wandering around the community.

You can take a boat cruise along the Prasae River to observe fisherman’s way of life and stay overnight in homestays available on the bank of Prasae River. They offer mouthwatering fresh seafood while some also provide bamboo rafting with a romantic dinner.
