Ban Na Charoen, Tambon Dong Mafai, Amphoe Suwannakhuha, Nong Bua Lam Phu

Attraction Details

Situated north of Ban Na Charoen, Tambon Dong Mafai, the site is located on a limestone mountain separate from the Phu Phan mountain range. Many pre-historic cave paintings can be found here, including the Tham Lang paintings. They comprise geometric shapes, animals, and handprints along five meters of smooth wall. The second group of paintings, in Tham Bon cave, comprise star shapes, figures, reptiles and large animal drawings.

These paintings are estimated to be 2,000-3,000 years old, as old as the paintings found at Phu Phra Bat Historical Park, Udon Thani. Their style is similar to those found in Guangxi Province in China. A Buddhist meditation center for monks is located nearby.

To get there, from Nong Bua Lam Phu town, take Highway No. 210 (Nong Bua Lam Phu - Wang Saphung), turn right into Highway No. 2097 to Amphoe Suwannakhuha, then take Suwan Nakhuha - Ban Na Charoen Road.
