This monument is dedicated to the first Surin town lord, Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Changwang. The antique brass statue is 2.2 meters tall, and holds a curved blade pike in his right hand, a symbol of the lord’s excellent talent in controlling war elephants, as well as Surin’s plentiful elephants since ancient times.

The statue is situated at town’s southern gate, which was once the inner town wall. The monument was officially opened in 1985. Nearby, close to the moat, are alsothe Elephant Monument and Pakam Spirit Shrine, which commemorates the town’s history.
