Attraction Details

Pong Tuk is believed to be the location of an ancient city during the Dvaravati Period in 11th Buddhist century. The excavations by the Fine Arts Department in 1927 and 1935 had found plenty of Dvaravati antiques and artifacts influenced by the Indian Gupta-style arts, such as Roman bronze lamp, Buddhist terra-cotta plaques, Visnu stone statue, and Buddha images. Today, artifacts and antiques are stored and displayed at both the nearby Wat Dong Sak Temple and the National Museum in Bangkok but the structures remained onsite are still the archeological evidence to picture of this ancient city’s heyday.
