About Prachuap Khiri Khan

Prachuapkhirikhan is a province in the upper southern Gulf of Thailand.  The province contains the narrowest part of Thailand, 11 km. from the coast of the Gulf of Thailand to the border with Myanmar.  The province has 7 districts.  The interesting place is Klai Kang Won Palace located in the north of Hua Hin with various beautiful species of flowers and lovely seaview.  The palace’s main residence buildings are named Piam Suk, Pluk Kasem, Oep Prem, and Em Pridi.

Travellers can feel the fresh air at Pa La-u Waterfall.  With its greenery forest, you can enjoy this 11-level waterfall and go swimming in the waterfall.  The best season is April – November.

The islands of Prachaukhirikhan are also alluring such as Koh Talu and Koh Sing in Amphur Bang Saphan Noi.  The islands are rich of colorful coral reefs, white sandy beaches.  People can enjoy snorkeling, fishing ,and can even stay overnight. 

Popular local products are shell-made dolls, seashell or coconut shell-made jewelry, basketwork, fresh or dried seafood, dried fruits, dried bananas with honey, and products from aloe vara. 

The well-known event of the province is paying homage to Buddha’s relics in Khao Chong Krajok.  The event is held every 12th of June.  People will pay homage to Lord Buddha’s relics and enclose the pagoda with cloth.  Moreover, they can see the Phrachuap Bay’s view from the mountain in the city’s center.

How to go

Busses from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal cost 110 baht for 1st class (air-conditioned), 85 baht for 2nd class (air-conditioned) and 61 baht for non-air-conditioned (ordinary) busses. The trip takes about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Various agencies on Khao San Road in Bangkok operate minivans to Hua Hin for 150 baht per person. The bus leaves for Bangkok from a station next to Siripetchkasem Hotel.

There are also air-conditioned busses between Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon Province (125 baht, 4 hours), Surat Thani Province (210 baht, 7hours), Phuket Province (305 baht, 10 hours) and Krabi Province (280 baht, 9 hours)

The trip takes about 3-3/4 hours from Bangkok; 1st class fare is 202 baht (rapid and express only), 2nd class is 102 baht (rapid and express only) and 3rd class is 44 baht. Call 1690 for more details.

There are currently no regular commercial air flights into Hua Hin, though there are charter flights available.

Hat Hua Hin

Hat Hua Hin is a 5-kilometer white sandy beach lined with a wide range of accommodations, from bungalows to five-star hotels and resorts. Located at the sunrise side of the city, the beach runs from a rocky headland which separates it from a tiny fishing pier, and gently curves for some three kilometers to the south where the Giant Standing Buddha Sculpture is located at the foot of Khao Takiap. While offering a tranquil atmosphere, the beach is also the place for fun-filled activities ranging from jogging, walking, sun bathing, horse riding, kite boarding, and other kinds of water sports.

Hua Hin Railway Station

Built in the reign of King Rama VI, the station is one of Thailand's oldest railway stations. In addition, it is one of the country's most beautiful train stations with unique architecture. Its most striking feature is the splendid Royal Waiting Room constructed in the Thai architectural style. The room was relocated from Sanam Chan Palace in Nakhon Pathom Province during the reign of King Rama VI. Hua Hin Night Market The most colorful spot in Hua Hin during the night, the market offer a wide array of food, drinks, deserts, memorable souvenirs; all kinds of freshly-prepared dishes. Famous are Pad Thai, Hoi Thod, fresh seafood, Indian roti bread, coconut ice cream, etc. (the list is endless) This market will delight visitors wishing to savor the real taste of Hua Hin.

Khao Takiap

This hill is situated at the southern end of Hua Hin, only 4 kilometers from the town. It can be easily reached by local minibus. Visitors can go up the hilltop to enjoy a bird's eye view of Hua Hin, which is one of the delightful views either during the day or night. There is a temple call Wat Khao Takiap situated on top of the hill. The nearby Khao Takiap Beach offers mostly bungalow accommodations. The giant golden Buddha Statue standing against the cliff has become a landmark of Khao Takiap.
