Answers
Is there a guide to accessible places for the physically challenged? While we don’t recommend a specific guidebook to plan your trips, to avoid unexpected troubles, online research and information from various guidebooks can provide invaluable information as Bangkok can present some challenges for those with physical disabilities. Once in Thailand ask for assistance if you need it – Thais are friendly and accommodating and will help if they can. Spend a little extra on modern hotels with suitable facilities and don't forget to check that they meet your requirements before making reservations.
With determination and a strong companion to help them get around, physically challenged travelers can enjoy Thailand. Whenever you can, take taxis and tuk-tuks or hire a car. Inter-city trains BTS, MRT and buses should not be too problematic, though not all stations have elevators and most curbs are high (for flood purposes) and lack ramps for wheelchairs.
Facilities for physically challenged travelers in Thailand include moving walkways, lifts in most locations such as buildings, department stores, shopping plaza, and hospitals and many toilets with facilities for individuals with physical impairment. A few of the most expensive top-end hotels make consistent design efforts to provide appropriate access to their properties. Other deluxe hotels with high employee-to-guest ratios are usually good about providing staff to help where building design fails.
The available facilities for mothers and kids in Thailand include nursery centers, theme parks, and learning centers. Recommended places in Bangkok for moms and kids include Dream World and the Science Center for Education.
In order to bring your pet into the kingdom of Thailand, you need to obtain authorization from the Airport Authority of Thailand. Your pet may be allowed as one of your accompanied baggages. Please be advised that you may be required to pay fees for the application, as well as import duties on your pet. Import duties are exempted if your pet will be in Thailand for 6 months or less. However, you will need to fill out a guarantee form and pay a deposit at the airport.
