Hostels
There has been a hostel explosion in Bangkok and other large Thai cities in the past few years. This is definitely a good thing, since if you started dipping below US$25 a few years ago, you might’ve ended up being either shocked or disgusted or both when you finally reached your room after a long flight from the other side of the world. Suffice it to say that you would sleep with your clothes on and move as quickly as possible in the morning.
Those days are happily in the past now, as Thailand has moved on to meet the growing youth, backpacker, and budget travel market. The hostel scene is a big part of this, and a number of very hip, trendy, clean, modern, and cheap hostels – usually with quirky names – have popped up in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, and other places.
