The Victory Monument is the monument in Bangkok. Its surrounding is at the center of  Highway I on RatchawithiRoad and Phayathai Road. It is on the kilometer marker 5 on Phahonyothin Road. The kilometer marker 0 on Phahonyothin Road is at the Democracy Monument that is 5 km from the Victory Monument.

The monument was built to admire bravery of soldiers, police and civilians who lost their lives in the dispute between Thailand and France over the redesignation of border between Thailand and Indochina. At the time, a large amount of people, including soldiers, police and civilians died.

The monument’s architecture is a sword bayonet that is a weapon of soldiers. It was designed in the shape of five bayonets clasped together and formed as star apple petals. The sword end is pointe upwards and the sharp edge is pointedoutwards. The monument was made of reinforced concrete decorated with marble, about 50 m in height. The sword bayonet was above the ceiling in a large hall, where bullets and ashes of soldiers were kept in the event of Thai and French dispute. Acopper-cast statueis situated at the base of the outer bayonet. Itssize is twice normal people of the warriors in five armed forces: army, navy, air force, police and civilians. The external wall of the hall is a copper plate, where a total of 160 names of casualties were inscribed – 94 army soldiers, 41 navies, 13 air soldiers and 12 field police. So far from 1940 to 1954, the total number of dead and devoted people has been 801.

In addition to the significant monument, it is an inscription of the dead soldiers in the event of the dispute between Thailand and France (Indochina War), the World War II and the Korean War. It is also the origin of Phahonyothin Road and a transport hub with several buses provided in many routes, including BTS and vans, which are served both in Bangkok and nearby provinces for 24 hours. The Victory Monument is therefore a key transport terminal of Bangkok.

Important places in the Victory Monument area include Rajavithi Hospital, Phramonkutklao Hospital, Phramongkutklao College of Medicine, Si Rat Expressway, BTS stations, the Victory Monument and department stores served to tourists while they are awaiting prior to departure.
