The museum is situated in Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. Founded in 2000 as a project of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to collect lotus species both Thai, foreign and hybrid, this museum is a research and learning centre.

Its aim is to study the lotus itself and put different parts of the plant to good use. In addition, it is a lotus botanical garden, dedicated to the preservation and propagation of the beautiful flower, and this makes it an ideal resource for ecotourism.

The area is filled with hundreds of various kinds of lotus planted both in pots and in ponds, including "Mangkala Ubol" which received the award of Best New Hardy Waterlily 2004 in the 19th World Lotus Competition in the U.S.A.

The museum is open from Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 16:30 with free admission.
