Where to Go
As a province somewhat off the typical tourist route, Phetchabun is best reached via private car or public bus. Once there, it may be easier to get around with your own car, but there are standard forms of local transport available for visitors: i.e. songtaews, motorbike taxis, samlors, and tuk tuks.
From Bangkok, drive along Highway No. 1 passing Saraburi to Phu Khae (Km. 125), turning right into Highway No. 21, and proceeding to Phetchabun via Chai Badan, Si Thep and Wichian Buri, a total distance of 346 kilometers.
Transport Co. Ltd. operates both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned bus services along the Bangkok-Phetchabun-Lom Sak route. Daily busses depart from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2). Call 0 2936 2852-66 or visit www.transport.co.th for more information. Private bus companies servicing Phetchabun include Phet Tour (Tel: 0 2936 3230) and Thin Siam Tour (Tel: 0 2936 0500).
There are currently no regular commercial air services to Phetchabun.
As in most rural Thai provinces there are typically songtaews that follow established routes around the provincial capital and local busses and songtaews for trips between towns within the province. Songtaews, motorbike taxis, and samlors (three wheeled pedal powered cabs) are usually available for private charter as well.
