Our tour starts early in the morning from Nong Khai as we want to beat the traffic and the mid afternoon heat. Enroute we will make a couple of quick stops to stretch our legs and to see a few interesting sights such as the Agriculture centre located about an hours drive form Nong Khai.

After the approximately three hour drive to reach Wat Phu Tok we will give everyone a brief description of the area as well some notes on what to look for and general behaivour when climbing the mountain.

After you have successfully reached the summit and enjoyed the stunning views of the local country side we will make our way to one of the nearby waterfalls for some photos, lunch maybe and a brief look at the local country side.

On the return we will again make several stops to stretch our legs with one in particular at Wat Ahong Silawas known as The Navel of the Mekong.

After this stop we will return back to Nong Khai were if, upon request, travellers wish to make one last stop at SalaKaewKoo we will stop here before returning to home.

Accessed via a network of staircases built in, on and around a giant sandstone outcrop, Wat Phu Tok is one of the region’s true wonders, with fabulous vistas over the surrounding countryside and a truly mesmerizing atmosphere. Six levels of steps, plus a seventh-level scramble up roots and rocks to the thick forest at the summit, represent the seven factors of enlightenment in Buddhist psychology. Meditation huts are scattered around the mountain, in caves and on cliffs. It is the cool and quiet isolation of this Wat that entices people from all over the Northeast to come and meditate here, many of them do so on the summit, so be quiet and respectful up there.
