Bangkok – Dusit International, one of Asia’s leading hotel groups, celebrates the achievement of its founder, Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui, who has recently been awarded the “SENSES LIFETIME AWARD” at the SENSES WELLNESS AWARDS held on 10 March 2011, Berlin Germany.
The SENSES Wellness Award has become a quality seal for the international wellness industry when it comes to rating luxurious spas for quality and standards of guest services, as well as for comprehensive and professional treatments and atmosphere. This year marks a special occasion as it is the first time this accolade has been accorded in Asia, and the first time the SENSES LIFETIME AWARD has been presented to an Asian hotelier.
Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui is well-known across the industry as Thailand’s first lady of hospitality, as she played a key role in the enhancement of Thai hospitality for over 60 years. The Thai hospitality industry has grown from a fledgling industry to one admired and respected around the world and it was Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui’s vision, determination and commitment that has built Thailand’s most respected hotel name, Dusit International. Her passion has fueled her life’s work for over 60 years, and has made her a pioneer of Thailand’s famous hospitality industry.
In 1947 when Thanpuying Chanut went to the United States, she spent a lot of time travelling and came back with the aspiration to build a hotel that would be like the ones she had admired in the States but would have to be specially Thai. She started her dream with the building of Bangkok’s first modern hotel which was opened in 1949 by Her Royal Highness Princess Galayani of Thailand. In time, she progressed to build five-star properties in Bangkok and key tourist destinations in Thailand and overseas. Thanpuying Chanut further expanded the business into hotel education with Dusit Thani College in 1993, followed by specialised culinary education in a joint venture with Le Cordon Bleu opening in 2007. She has also introduced Devarana Spa, the garden in heaven with the wealth of traditional Thai-inspired therapies, to her hotels and resorts across the region.
Chief Executive Officer of Dusit International, Mr Chanin Donavanik who has received the award on behalf of his mother said, “This recognition has marked one of the most significant milestones not only for my mother, but also for Dusit International and all employees who have delivered the distinguished Dusit hospitality that captures the hearts of travellers from across the world. This award to us means that we will continue to strive to enhance the hospitality industry, and we hope that the achievement of my mother will inspire many hoteliers to pursue only excellence in everything that they do, and always do it with passion, and never give up on their dreams no matter what the challenge.”
