Not to be confused with the similarly named Koh Phang Ngan, which home of the raucous Full Moon Parties, Phang Nga province is a short boat ride from the northern tip of Phuket. A distinctive feature of the islands here is the sheer limestone cliffs that jut vertically out of the emerald green water.
The area of Khao Lak became known worldwide when it was devastated by the 2004 tsunami, but it has since made a full recovery and is more beautiful than ever. The world renowned James Bond Island and Koh Pannyi are just two of the more famous spots in this pristine, picturesque bay.
Hiring a boat for a leisurely day trip cruising through dramatic limestone islands, occasionally stopping to enjoy quiet beaches, or paddling a sea-kayak into hidden “rooms” nestled among the islands of Phang Nga can be more romantic that you ever dreamed.
