Maybe the biggest growth in hotels is with boutique resorts; often quiet, quaint spots that are rich in character. In Bangkok, set by the Chao Phraya River, are the Chakrabongse Villas, private apartments set in the sumptuous grounds of Chakrabongse House. It’s the perfect way to avoid the bustling Bangkok streets and find some peace. It’s also within walking distance of the city’s premier attractions, including the Grand Palace.
Also in Bangkok is the Siam Kempinski Hotel, which lets guests get away from the city grind and relax in landscaped gardens, swimming pools and a spa.
Away from the capital, Kanchanaburi has many excellent boutique resorts near the famous River Kwai, often in large grounds and with splendid mountain views. Up in Chiang Mai, the Chiang Dao Nest is also surrounded by soaring mountains by a national park while the five-star Four Seasons Resort has large, open restaurants and all-round quality
