Boats are a very popular and common mode of transport in Thailand. You and your family should make an effort to take advantage of them, especially in Bangkok as you go sightseeing. A few Baht will get you anywhere along the river, and it’s quite an experience as well using the Chao Phaya River, the “River of Kings”, as your thoroughfare.

Then there are the stunningly beautiful cruises of Phang Nga Bay in Phuket and Krabi.  If you can manage a cruise of longer than one day, you’ll certainly be glad you did. 

In the north, a number of boats carry tourists up and down the Mekong River between the Golden Triangle and the ancient capital of Laos, Luang Prabang.
