Sadly, boats are an often overlooked travel option, since they are great fun, excellent for sightseeing, and often surprisingly reasonable price-wise.For little more than a US quarter, you can travel up and down the River of Kings in Bangkok, stopping off at the Grand Palace, or famous temples, and also learning about life on the river as lived by many Thais – and the odd farang (foreigner).
Watch children bathing and businessmen going to work; see monks going to temples and mothers shopping with their kids. The river is an ever-changing thoroughfare where the traffic always keeps moving, unlike some of the streets.
In the south, especially around Phuket and Krabi, you can spend 3, 5, or 7 days on a beautifully restored junk or a modern yacht, which includes not only an amazing tour, but your room and board as well!
