Art, Culture & Heritage

Art and culture lovers tend to start their viewings in Bangkok, as the capital has several museums and art galleries.

The Bangkok Art and Culture Center is a relatively new attraction that has regularly-changing exhibitions of modern art. Nearby is Jim Thompson House, which houses a collection of priceless artifacts that were collected by the eponymous owner and silk trader.

The Bangkok Folk Museum, close to the Chao Phraya River, lifts the lid on what life was like for city dwellers during the Second World War and afterwards.

The Vimanmek Palace is a teak mansion in the Dusit Palace complex. Built in 1900, it is the largest golden teakwood mansion in the world and houses a collection of national treasures.

Away from the capital, Bang Pa-In Palace in Ayuthaya is an eclectic collection of artworks, while art fans will love the Night Bazaar that is held in Chiang Mai, where all manner of handicraft and locally-made goods can be bought.
