Kanchanaburi is an excellent destination for the budget traveler, as well as one possessing great historical, natural, and cultural interest.A few hours by bus, or better yet, by train, will take you from Bangkok west past Nakhon Pathom to Kanchanaburi, not far from the border with Myanmar.
There is a growing backpacker and budget scene developing in and around Kanchanaburi, due to the beauty and chilled out nature of the place.There are some great riverside bungalows and restaurants with prices you will certainly appreciate.
There are many excellent day trips you can take from Kanchanaburi as well, including to one of Thailand’s most beautiful waterfalls, the famous seven-tiered Erawan Falls.On the way back to town, enjoy a stop at one of several elephant camps, national parks, or ethnic villages.These excursions all remain happily within the purview of the budget traveler. Of course, don’t forget to see the infamous bridge!
