Attraction Details :

During the first decade of the 19th century in Thailand, when King Rama I reigned, Burmese Tai Yai people from Mueang Mang town were relocated to a new village in the province, called Ban Mang. The then-ruler of Nan persuaded the townspeople to erect this distinctive temple, which later became known as Wat Saen Mueang Ma.

Noteworthy architectural details feature its multi-tiered roof decorated with swans and sea serpents (Nagas), their fanged mouths propped open by crystal balls. Colorful wooden fretwork, wooden doors, and the main three-portico entrance add distinctive Tai Lue styles to the mix. The Naga sculptures have a unique twist: they are decorated with deer horns. Murals of the Tai Lue life and the principal Buddha image can be found inside the temple hall.

The temple is located at 113 Ban Mang, Mu 4, Tambon Yuan, Amphoe Chiang Kham, Phayao. Also within the temple grounds is a museum, which can be contacted at 0 5445 1399, open daily from 8.00 am-5.00 pm.
