Perched aside a road running parallel to the old city walls on the west side of town is Wat Mahawan. The several centuries-old temple was constructed during the time of the founding queen of Haripunchai, Queen Chamthewi. Enshrined inside is a beautiful statue given to the temple by the queen - the statue of a Nak Prok, decorated with mythical serpents overhead. Commonly known as Phra Rot Lamphun, it serves as the model for the province’s famous votive tablets.
The temple is open daily from 8.00 am-6.00 pm.
