Attraction Details :

Located on the west bank of the majestic Chao Phraya River, this Mon-style temple was constructed during the Thon Buri period, at a time of mass migrations of the Mon ethnic group from then-Burma to Thailand. The signature structure of a Mon temple, a column topped by the sculpture of a swan (“Hongsa” or “Hamsa”), symbolizing Pegu or Hongsawadi, the Mon capital city. Inside are replicas of an important Buddha image, PhraPhutthaChinnarat and a Mon-style Chedi (or stupa), whose original is located in Hongsawadi. Inside the shrine hall, murals depict the Lord Buddha’s life and history.

Wat Mon has been nationally recognized for efforts to preserve indigenous fish in a project located in front of the temple. Those who come to pay respect to the Buddha images at the temple often feed the many species of fish living in the nearby Chao Phraya river, ranging from striped catfish to black-ear catfish.

The temple is open daily from 8.00 am-5.00 pm
