This ancient road was constructed during the reign of King Songtham, commissioned by the king himself. King Songtham came to examine Lord Buddha’s footprint, travelling by royal barge along the nearby Pa Sak River. After arriving at the pier, he continued his trip by elephant. On his way back, he ordered a foreigner to survey the area with a telescope, and had a 10-wa (or 20-meter) road cut as a royal path straight through to the pier.
At present, only approximately 9 kilometers of the path remain, starting from the area opposite a temple named Wat Sang Sok. The first kilometer is a dirt path that is no longer in use. The rest is a laterite road passing behind a few temples - WatPanchaphirom and WatNongKhonthi - crossing PhraPhutthabat–Ban Mo Road in front of WatKanlayanaBanphot, and passing in front of ChaophoKhaoTok Shrine and PhraTamnakSaYo before disappearing.
