Attraction Details :

Sa Kaeo Sa Khwan is located at Moo 6 and Moo 7, Sa Kaeo Sub-district, inside a public park near Muang Sa Kaeo Municipality Office on Suwannasorn Road (246th – 247th kilometer), west of Sa Kaeo town. From the District Office, take Suwannasorn Road for about 1 kilometer and turn left at an intersection. Proceed for 800 meters and you will arrive at Sa Kaeo Sa Khwan.

Sa Kaeo Sa Khwan are large twin ponds in rectangular shape. It was renovated in 1995 into an irrigation reservoir of Muang Sa Kaeo Municipality. The area was also developed into a public park where local people come to relax.

According to the legend, in 1780 during Thonburi Era, Somdej Chaophraya Maha Kasatsuk (later became King Rama I), during his journey to lead war against Cambodia, stopped at the ponds to drink and use the water. He gave the ponds their names, “Sa Kaeo” and “Sa Khwan,” and later won that fight. The ponds have become a symbol of holiness and auspiciousness, as well as the origin of the province’s name. Moreover, from the belief that the water in Sa Kaeo Sa Khwan is holy, the water in these ponds was once utilized in the Oath of Allegiance Ceremony. Sa Kaeo Sa Khwan is considered an important historical attraction of Sa Kaeo Province as well as Thailand.
