Lesser known to tourists, Prasat Nakhon Luang is an ancient religious temple believed to be built in 1631 during the reign of King Song Tham of Ayutthaya. The king sent the artists to Cambodia to study the architecture of the Khmer temples and palaces in Angkor Thom, also known as Phra Nakhon Luang, to create a simplified version here, hence name it accordingly to its origin. It is believed that Prasat Nakhon Luang was first built as a royal camp en route the possession to visit the Lord Buddha's footprint in Saraburi, but it was later turned into a Buddhist temple itself with a Western-style pavilion enshrined  four Buddha's footprint perched atop the former architecture, making a combination of different architectural styles rarely seen elsewhere.
