Attraction Details :

Muang Sing Historical Park is one of Thailand’s historical parks. It is located on the northern side of Kwae Noi Riverbank in Sing Sub-District, Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province. It is surrounded by mountains. The city plan is in rectangle shape. The city wall was built with laterites. There are moats and ridges encircling the area. There are 6 pools in the city.

Muang Sing Castle was built as a Buddhist place in Mahayana Buddhism. Fine Art Department started to repair the castle in 1935 but actually the repair started in 1974 and completed in 1987.

It is said that architecture and sculptures of Muang Sing Castle are similar to those in the era of King Jayavarman VII (1177-1237), the castle builder of Khmer. During the repair, Fine Art Department found many significant art pieces; statues of Buddha with seven-headed Mucalinda Snake, Avalokitesvara, Prajnaparamita, and Avalokitesvara with ray. The statues are similar to the art found in Cambodia. Nowadays, Fine Art Department has kept the statues at Bangkok National Museum. Only the reproductions of the statues remain in the castle.

The stone inscription of Phra Khan Castle in the capital city of Cambodia by Veera Kumar, a son of King Jayavarman VII, has recorded 23 cities that King Jayavarman VII has built. There is the name of Srichai Singburi City which is guessed that it is the former name if Muang Sing Castle. There is also the name of Lavo Thayapura City or Lavo or Lopburi that has Phra Prang Sam Yot as the antiques of the era. Considering about the relationship between Lavo and the capital city of Cambodia, Muang Sing was the fortress of King Yodfa Chulaloke. In the era of King Mongkut, he promoted Chao Muang Sing as Phra Saming Singburi. In the era of King Chulalongkorn, the system government was changed into provinces. Muang Sing therefore was changed into a district.
