Attraction Details :

National Museum, Suphan Buri, was established according to the 1995 Provincial National Museums Project with the aim to be a learning center for archaeology, history, anthropology and local cultures of Suphanburi. The project, initiated by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, does not only create National Museum Suphan Buri, but also Suphanburi College of Dramatic Arts, Suphanburi National Archives, Chaloem Phra Kiat National Library Suphan Buri and the Western National Theatre of Suphan Buri.

Permanent exhibitions of the National Museum Suphan Buri, displaying important historical evidence of Suphanburi Province, are divided into rooms such as the “Muang Suphan Room” which tells the history of Suphanburi since 3,500 years ago. Other rooms display the evolution of the province, from Dvaravati Era, Lopburi Era, Ayutthaya Era to Rattanakosin Era, through models and audiovisual presentations, the event when King Naresuan won the elephant duel battle, the origin and cultures of various ethnic groups living in Suphanburi, rare and famous scared objects found in Suphanburi from past to present and local cultures of Suphanburi. Tourists will see Suphanburi’s famous amulets and learn stories of famous people born in Suphanburi along with their important works collected in the room. That includes the stories and the songs of famous folk singers, Suraphol Sombatcharoen and Pumpuang Duangjan.

Near the museum is the Honour Room of Mr. Banharn Silapa-Archa, the Suphanburi-born politician and the 21st prime minister of Thailand. The room, featuring his life stories, including his childhood, his fight and his political works until present, is worth visiting.

Opening Hours: National Museum Suphan Buri opens on Wednesday to Sunday, from 9.00 a.m. to 16.00 p.m. and closes on Monday to Tuesday and holidays (New Year and Songkran holidays)
