Attraction Details :
A blend of tropical forests await visitors who make the arduous trek up the reservoir’s mountain, ranging from deciduous dipterocarp forest to dry evergreen forest. Those seeking a shorter hike can walk 3 kilometers to Ban Cham Kai and waterfalls such as Namtok Huai Chomphu and Namtok Tat Hua Chang. Along the Pha Thewada mountain range are also caves, large and small, perfect for short explorations.
A typical visit is an overnight stay at the local camping area and two days of activities: abseiling from the Thewada cliff, with heights up to 110 meters. During the cooler months (November to February), fields of sunflowers bloom as far as the eye can see.
To get there from Amphoe Mueang Phayao, pass the Mae Tam intersection along Highway No. 1021 and pass the Dok Kham Tai District Office for 2 kilometers. Turn right at the crossroad into Ban Cham Kai. Go straight on for 9 kilometers to a tourist center located in Tambon San Khong.
The reservoir is open from 8.00 am-5.00 pm. For more information, call the San Khong Sub-district Administration Organization at 0 5441 9107 or the Wiang Lo Wildlife Sanctuary at 0 5442 1557.
