Baan Dontree was established as Primary Educational Service Area in Samutsongkram started to focus on the local wisdom, especially for Thai music which is treasure to Samutsongkram’s descendants since Luang Praditpairo (Sorn Silpabullaeng), an acknowledged master in Thai music belongs to this hometown. As a result, the house calls for Thai music masters to teach and instruct the new generation and to secure the position of Thailand’s city of music. The house was founded on 1 July 1999, open for welcoming tourists as well as for teaching Thai music.
Baan Dontree is located in Wat Pumrinkuthithong, Moo 8, Tambon Suan Luang, Amphoe Aumpawa in the province of Samutsongkram. It is a 2-story wooden house. Teaching and learning Thai music is downstairs. The house possesses almost all Thai music instruments as well as masks of Thai music teachers whom musicians greatly respect and Thai music teachers’ photographs. Thai music rooms are divided into several rooms including a xylophone room, a fiddle room, a Chinese cymbalo room, a room for three-stringed musical instruments etc. upstairs. On weekdays, local students come to use the rooms. The public and students from other areas can learn here by paying 300 baht for 20 times. The course is available on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays by contacting 0 3475 0500, 0-34732623. In the future, the house will be developed into a Thai music museum.
1. Personal cars: drive along Autoroute 35 (Mae Klong-Aumpawa), before arriving Aumpawa Floating Market 5 kilometers, turn left at the intersection on your left and go straight on Prasrisuriyen bridge(Saphan Nangwang) and turn right at the intersection. Go straight again and cross Wat Pumrinkuthithong Bridge, turn right into the temple arc and go straight.
