Both freshwater fishing and ocean fishing are popular activities in Thailand. Freshwater fisherman can test their strength against such exotic Thai fish species as the Giant Siamese Carp, Arapaima, Giant Stingray, Giant Snakehead, and Giant Mekong Catfish, the largest freshwater fish in the world.
Anglers who prefer sport fishing in the ocean will find Pattaya and Phuket the best places to arrange private charters. Barracuda, sail fish, grouper, and red snapper are among the fish caught frequently in both the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea. Each November there is also the Phuket International Sport Fishing Tournament, allowing visitors and locals to put their angling skills to the test in some of Asia’s most plentiful waters.
