I spent twelve days in Thailand beginning in Bangkok and ending in Phuket. We stayed in Kata and we completely satisfied with our choice.
I chose Kata as our destination because of the reviews and personal advice of websites and friends. Kata is more relaxing than other areas in Phuket such as Patong Beach. The crowd is many older couples but it did not bother me at all.
We stayed in Kata for four days and every second was pleasant. The beach is by far the best in Phuket. The water is clean and refreshingly warm. Our resort was directly on the beach and had the perfect location. The beach area is not over crowded yet not desolate. Its the perfect beach enviroment.
Just a few feet from the shore there is a amazing snorkeling areas. I personally had the best snorkeling experience of my life off the Kata coast. The visibility was spectular and the most beautiful fish are everywhere. I saw pufferfish, tangs, damsels and even a eel. It was spectacular!
The view from our hotel was breathtaking. The most amazing time was just at sunset where all of the tourists went out to the shore to admire the sight. I have the most amazing pictures of the sunsets on the Andaman sea.
The food in Kata is very good. Its a smaller area than some of the more popular places in Phuket but it feels more like home. The people are closer and friendlier. I ate traditional Thai cuisine the entire trip and it was delicious! The local shops are nice and local people do not pressure you as much as Patong.
If you are planning on going to Phuket, Thailand, I definitely recommend Kata beach as your destination. Kata exhibits the best of everything in Thailand including the beaches, the food, the shops and the atmosphere. I experienced the best of it all and I definitely will be back!
