Occasionally a Thai taxi will attempt to charge you a fixed rate and it may be difficult for you to know if it is a reasonable price; it is recommended that you use a metered taxi whenever possible.

When a Thai taxi stops to pick you up, tell the driver your destination and if he does not turn on the meter within a few seconds politely ask him to turn it on. If he won't turn on the meter, ask him to stop and find an...
