Amphoe Mueang, Nakhon Nayok
An iconic NakhonNayok shrine, the City Pillar Shrine has been reconstructed and renovated several times before arriving at the present state. Situated near the old city wall, it was once an old shrine housing a one-meter wooden column that had a lotus carved at its tip. The local administration took note of the city pillar’s deteriorating condition in 1910, and the city pillar was eventually enshrined at the Red Building of the Si NakhonNayok School, under a specially constructed four-cornered pavilion on the bank of NakhonNayok River. Inside the shrine, one corner is dedicated to Naraya, a Hindu god, and the other to a Buddhist image from the Ayutthaya period.
The City Pillar Shrine is open to visitors from 8.00 am-5.00 pm daily.
