From dust to dragon, sculptor Phayao can do.

In Mae Jai district of Phayao province, the sawdust waste is transformed into art pieces and eventually extra income for the community.

The local sculptors of Ban Dong Boonnak make the most of the dust. The sawdust from their backyard is shaped up by hand and transformed into lively statues with delicate details, from muscle, scales to tiny hairs. When the figures are finished with natural-colored paint, you will be amazed by the craftsmanship of Phayao’s local sculptors.

Combined with some unique ideas to decorate, the statues of the dragon are available on tree’s branches or even wooden windows. Definitely, they become famous art items. At first, only dragon statues were shaped up. After gaining popularity, the village sculptors get more training, and the product portfolio is expanded. Now the sawdust statues from Ban Dong Boonnak are available in shape of chicken, iguana, eagle, bird, swan, etc. They can be excellent home decoration items, souvenir, and even sacred items.

In 2010, the sawdust dragon won a two-star OTOP award. It was certified by Phayao Brand in 2011. A year later, it was ranked the second place of Phayao’s OTOP Development Award in 2013.

They can make an excellent gift or souvenir, add colors to your living room, or strengthen the Feng Shui of your desk.

The peaceful province of Phayao houses a picturesque lake called Kwan Phayao. It is a favorite spot with local tourists who come for comfortable dining by the lake. Around it is a recreational area where is occupied by picnicking families, strolling couples, and delighted diners who want to explore the restaurant-filled promenade.
